Dr Thomas Tomkos has over 25 years of consulting expertise at supervisory board and executive board level across diverse industries. His clientele includes publicly listed global corporations, medium-sized enterprises and family-run businesses of various sizes and backgrounds. In addition to appointments at board and executive level, he is a proven corporate governance expert and he specializes in board and supervisory board evaluations, corporate governance frameworks, board effectiveness, succession planning and generational transitions.

Prior to founding tomkos.partners, Thomas served in multiple capacities at Russell Reynolds Associates (RRA) from 2005 to 2024, most recently as Head of the German Board & CEO Advisory Partners practice group and the European CFO practice, and he was also involved in establishing the global Family Business practice group. He managed RRA’s German operations for seven years until 2017, during which time he drove the firm’s market-leading positioning. In addition, he co-led the firm’s European family business activities and previously steered the European Aviation, Aerospace and Defence practice. Prior to that, Thomas was the Managing Director of LTU Aircraft Maintenance and previously led the Strategy and Aviation practice at a European strategy consultancy. He began his career at Gemini Consulting in Berlin.

Thomas studied physics, mathematics and philosophy at the University of Hamburg, where he also received his doctorate in theoretical physics. During his studies, he gained his first entrepreneurial experience as a co-founder of an online start-up in the medical sector. He is fluent in German, English and Greek, and has served on supervisory boards, boards of directors and as a shareholder.

Kathrin Fischer serves as the Director of Research and Markets at tomkos.partners in Hamburg

She joined tomkos.partners with more than two decades of professional experience, most recently as Research Director at Russell Reynolds Associates from 2007 to 2024. As a member of the European CFO practice group and the German CEO & Board practice group with a focus on the industrial sector, she worked with Thomas Tomkos on a wide range of projects.

Before joining Russell Reynolds Associates, Kathrin spent nearly seven years with Boston Consulting Group in Hamburg and London as a researcher specializing in the energy sector. Her responsibilities included researching, processing, analysing and documenting internal and external data and information. After completing her studies, Kathrin initially worked at the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, where she was involved in the conception, planning and organisation of professional training programs.

Kathrin Fischer studied ecotrophology at the Technical University of Munich and spent one semester in Cambridge as part of an Erasmus scholarship. In addition to her native German, she is fluent in English, proficient in Spanish and has basic knowledge of Swedish.

Uta Fischer is Project Director at tomkos.partners in Hamburg.

She joined tomkos.partners with more than 13 years of executive search experience from her time at Russell Reynolds Associates. In direct cooperation with Thomas Tomkos, she supports and coordinates appointments to management, supervisory and advisory boards as well as the assessment of supervisory and advisory boards.

Before joining Russell Reynolds Associates, Uta worked for many years as an account manager and budget director for owner agencies and international network agencies in the development and management of communication concepts for the financial and media sectors. She has been with tomkos.partners since its establishment and brings her expertise to the company in all matters relating to marketing and branding.

Uta holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing communication from the Academy for Marketing & Communication in Cologne.

Maren
Schmidt-Maibach
Senior Project Manager

Maren Schmidt-Maibach is Senior Project Manager at tomkos.partners and has been part of Thomas Tomkos’ core team for many years.

She began her career in the hotel industry in Asia, where she acquired international experience early on, also influenced by her parents. After several years in the industry, most recently mainly in Germany, she transitioned to a role as an assistant in development assistance consultancy. Building on the project management knowledge she acquired during this time, she has since worked in personnel consulting and was active in executive search for over 18 years before joining tomkos.partners.

As a key member of the tomkos.partners team, she brings a high degree of professionalism, organisational strength and communication skills to the successful implementation of demanding projects, including many in the board advisory area, and ensures strong client orientation through her skills as a planning manager.
